MATUR OG DRYKKUR has from the beginning focused on working with what Icelandic nature has to offer — wild herbs, and carefully sourced ingredients from both land and sea — while drawing inspiration from traditional Icelandic recipes found in old cookbooks and manuscripts.
These recipes we reinterpret in our own way, bringing them into a contemporary context.
The roots of Icelandic culinary tradition are, to a large extent, shaped by women who were among the first to receive formal training in domestic science schools, laying the foundation for the cuisine we build upon today. This heritage is important to us and is reflected in our approach.
Since 2017, Matur og Drykkur has been recognised by the Michelin Guide — a testament to our dedication to craftsmanship, seasonal ingredients, and the reinterpretation of Icelandic culinary traditions.

MATUR OG DRYKKUR is a women-led kitchen run by chef Helga Haraldsdóttir.
From the very beginning, the focus has been on creating a space where professionalism, creativity and a passion for food can thrive.
Our work is built on the values of equality, respect, and collaboration.
We believe that diversity is a strength, and that everyone should have equal opportunities to grow and develop — both in the kitchen and beyond.
Our goal is to create an environment where talent can flourish, ideas are welcomed, and people work together with integrity. This is reflected in every experience we create and every dish we serve.
